Crave the Boot: Non-Redemptive Poems of Despair, Resentment, and Degradation

VoidCorporeal

February, 2025

Crave the Boot is a thematically linked collection of poems intended to take the reader through through self-reflection on pain toward resignation. Crave grapples with the emotional wreckage of misspent love while touching on trauma, longing, regret, and sex. The poems speak from a place of anguish and crystalize fragments of thought and feeling that come in the aftermath of codependency, abuse, and negation. Without apology, excuse, or any artifice of heroic triumph, Crave gives voice to the burdens of self-awareness and memory. Though all things end, “after” imposes its own unique weight.

Crave the Boot is for anybody whose relationships with themselves or others have led them to a place where they question how to rebuild themselves, whether it’s worth the effort, and whether they are capable or worthy of something else. Those who find themselves arguing in their head with the ghosts of their past in the shower or on the long drive to work. The fellow travelers who on their couches involuntarily travel through time into past moments to re-live the same feelings of helplessness or find their delayed voice. There are also strawberries.
